Polarice are a team of like minded individuals who are passionate about exploring the outdoors. Initially a group of guys who went climbing together, we have developed into polar expedition enthusiasts. As a team we won the 2006 Sony Polar Challenge and completed a self supported expedition to Greenland in 2010, among many smaller scale trips.

Simon Edmundson

Team leader, organiser, and training manager

Simon is currently taking a sabbatical year from his job with a leading global oilfield services company, with his most recent position being in Angola, west Africa. During childhood, family holidays normally consisted of jaunts around the lake district or climbing in the Alps and subsequently the trips have grown bigger and bigger. Simon has participated in, planned and lead expeditions to the Magnetic North Pole (with Mike and Tim), Nepal, East Africa, Iceland, Pakistan, China and Alaska. As part of the winning team in the 2006 Sony Polar Challenge, Simon first performed the role of team cook and continues to deliver culinary delights to Mike and Tim on expeditions the Polarice team undertakes together.

Tim Tottenham

Team member, digital guru, and security consultant

Tim spent 5 years as an officer in the regular Royal Marines, and since leaving in 2006, has been a member of the Royal Marine Reserves. As well as spending time in Arctic environments with them, he has also deployed on operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. Despite this, the others thought it was sensible to entrust him with purchasing and being responsible for the rifle.

He is also responsible for the team's web presence; building this site, and bombarding the social networks with PolarIce.

Mike Dann

Team member, logistician, and phys monster

Sadly, Mike is no longer able to join us on the ice. Together with Annabel and Henry however, he's going to be doing whatever he can to support us from back in the UK.

Born and brought up in Huddersfield, Mike is a keen adventurer who spent most of his teenage years in the Yorkshire Dales developing a passion for the mountains and outdoors that has stayed with him. As a university student he spent as much free time as possible travelling throughout the world, including South and Central America, Egypt and the Mediterranean. Since then, Mike has been extremely active in both mountaineering and polar circles, leading expeditions to the Magnetic North Pole, Mt Elbrus and Greenland amongst smaller trips.

Since 2007 Mike has owned and operated his own property development business based in Huddersfield, MD Property Development Ltd.
